Welcome to Blue Maya's first newsletter, "Fashion Statement"!!
I am really excited about this new addition to our website. It is jam packed with style tips, entertainment, fun and giveaways. I hope you will enjoy our newsletter. The web designers have done a fantastic job in making this newsletter as intereactive as possible (something about web 2.0 or whatever that means) have fun searching for hidden features (I still haven't found them all myself!)
The first instalment of Fashion Statement is dedicated to the style queen quartet: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte, better known as the characters of Sex and the City - the ultimate chick flick ever made!
Blue Maya is giving away double tickets to Greater Union Cinemas to 2 lucky subscribers - see the style tips/feedback section below for more details.
While you read this issue of Fashion Statement, I will be watching all 6 seasons of Sex and the City before I see the movie!!!! I can't believe how much I missed it!

Kim Cattral was snapped during the shooting of a scene on the set of the Sex and the City movie carrying this beautiful Nancy Gonzalez exotic skin handbag.
You can also achieve a Sex and the City look with our gorgeous Condura embossed croc texture bag in this season's hottest colour - mushroom.
At only $65 you can look as stunning as Kim everyday!
Just like the characters in Sex and the City, each one of us has their own unique style. If you think about it, it really comes down to the way we accessorize that makes our style unique. To some extent, each one of us can associate with a character from Sex and the City.
Take Kim Cattral's character Samantha Jones. She has such a strong, powerful and bubbly attitude and this is reflected in her attire. She certainly never makes a fashion understatement. In her wardrobe you will find beautiful pieces with bold colours, large handbags, statement jewellery pieces and very high heels. Kim really portrays the image of a successful woman who doesn't deny herself anything.
For the corporate warriors out there who enjoy practical fashion rather than following each season's trends, then you can probably relate to Cynthia Nixon's character, Miranda Hobbes. Miranda's style is sharp, elegant and timeless. She keeps her look contemporary with medium size bags and folios, modern pieces of jewellery and professional colours like black, white and grey accentuated with auburn tones, red, orange and yellow.
In any group of women, there will always be a Charlotte York, played by Kristin Davis. These women have a classic chic style which accentuates their feminine charm and wear their hearts on their sleeves. In Charlotte's wardrobe you will invariably find delicate feminine pieces, small handbags, pearls, pastel colours especially pinks, baby blues and whites.
And lastly but not least, my fave character that Sarah Jessica Parker brings to life, Carrie Bradshaw. She is the fun, sassy, ethereal kind whose style defies all categorization. All eyes are on Carrie wherever she goes. In her huge walk-in wardrobe you will inevitably find anything ranging from haute couture to vintage pieces. Her accessories will include neck-breaking high heels (aka Jimmy Choos), a mix of retro and classic pieces, oversized handbags and statement jewellery pieces that become iconic pieces in the fashion world.
It is not surprising that Sex and the City has run for 6 seasons and has such a huge following. I think Sex and the City has endured because of the strong connection people have with its characters.
I, like many women, am glad that Sex and the City is not over just yet.
Our first fashion tribute goes to French designer, Yves Saint Laurent who, at 71, passed away over the weekend.
Saint Laurent leaves behind a huge contribution to the fashion world with over 50 years in the industry.
At age 17 he entered a fashion design competition and won first prize for a cocktail dress design. He was then hired by Dior, and after Dior's death, Saint Laurent became head designer at Dior.
In 1961 Saint Laurent founded his own fashion house and he is probably most famous for introducing the 'smoking' or the pants suit to women!
In 1966 Saint Laurent opened a chain of ready-to-wear shops under the name "Rive Gauche".
His innovative designs were so revolutionary he will be truly missed but never forgotten in the world of fashion.
